Card of the Day: King George V in his Imperial Robes

Upon the death of his father, King Edward VII, in 1910, King George V found himself faced with challenges that he never imagined. Throughout the confusing period of his early reign, George leaned on his beloved wife, Queen Mary.

George V—like many men of power during this period—had a difficult time expressing his feelings. He did, however, write many long, personal letters to Mary in which he thanked her for her unending support and stating that he would not have been able to endure the trials with which he was faced without her.

Here, we see King George V in his Imperial Robes. We’re starting a new set of Cigarette Card today. This set was produced by Churchmans Cigarettes in 1935 for the Silver Jubilee of King George V and Queen Mary.
