Goal for the Day: Explore another Culture

Part of living a beautiful life is trying new things and always being curious about other parts of the world. In order to truly understand our own culture, we need to be able to look to others to see how we all influence one another. The study of the Humanities requires that we examine the works of all humans—even those that we may not agree with all the time.

Today, look to another culture. Perhaps you can have lunch at a Thai or Indian restaurant. Maybe you can take a few minutes to watch a documentary about a different people. You can do an online search for art in other parts of the world. If you have a friend who comes from a different culture, ask him or her about their customs. Seeing what other cultures have to offer not only enlightens you, but also serves to reinforce what you most appreciate about your own.

What great challenge.

After reading about a musician from Azerbaijan and realizing I'd never before heard of that country, I began the Spotlight Series. I wanted to explore the world and then share that information.

Good post, Joseph. :)
